I Spy

Did you know that an estimated 40% of people admit to snooping in other people's medicine cabinets?  It's an interesting phenomenon, one that was brought to mind when I saw today's Photo-a-Day Challenge prompt: "inside your bathroom cabinet."
I wouldn't snoop in someone else's medicine cabinet because I wouldn't want to get caught it's wrong, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing everyone's photo for today's challenge.  ;)
There's just a certain curiosity about the contents of one's bathroom cabinet.   According to Dr. Troy Thompson, former chair of the psychiatry department at Jefferson Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, "Medicine cabinets are where you find secrets.  People are naturally curious, and they like to know things about other people".
There are several examples of medicine cabinet snooping on television and in movies.  Like this Southwest Airlines commercial:

Or this dialogue from Seinfeld's "The Conversion" television episode:

Elaine: What were you doing opening her medicine cabinet?
Jerry: I didn't open it. It was open. I just nudged it a little.
Elaine: You were snooping.
Jerry: I was not snooping. I did not break the seal. There was no breaking and entering. I wouldn't do that.
Kramer: I would. I always open medicine cabinets.
Elaine: Well I trust people not to do that.
Kramer: Big mistake.

And finally, this clip from the 1991 movie, Father of the Bride, where Steve Martin does a bit of snooping in the medicine cabinet of his daughter's prospective in-laws.
We do not have a medicine cabinet per se, but we have plenty of cupboards and drawers that can be peeked into.  For today's challenge I photographed the drawer that contains some of my hair care products and tools (you didn't really think I'd photograph the ones with the secrets, did you?).

Now I'm off to Instagram to do some snooping of my own and check out all of the "inside your bathroom cabinet" photos!

  1. The co-incidence is that I chose the hair product section ... but that is where the similarities end. Your drawer is very well organized.

    1. I love the entire clip from "Father of the Bride!" I didn't know how to cut off the video after the point where he looks in the medicine cabinets, so I just left it. The whole thing's pretty funny!
