A New Read

I can't remember when I read my first Sue Grafton novel.  "A" is for Alibi was published in 1982, so it wasn't before then.  I do know that for many years now I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of her 21 alphabet series mystery novels.  And now, there's a new one!
Today's photo challenge prompt is "new"
"V" is for Vengeance was published three months ago and I'm finally getting a chance to read it.
Sue Grafton's alphabet series novels are chronological stories that are set in the 1980's in and around the fictional town of Santa Teresa, California.  The books are written from the perspective of Kinsey Millhone, a private investigator who works her way through various mysteries, starting with "A" is for Alibi and continuing with "B" is for Burglar, "C" is for Corpse, and so on through the alphabet.
Kinsey is a wonderful character.  We meet her in the opening lines of "A" is for Alibi:
"My name is Kinsey Millhone.  I am a private investigator, licensed by the state of California. I am thirty-two years old, twice divorced, no kids. The day before yesterday I killed someone and the fact weighs heavily on my mind."       :)
And I sure can't describe her any better than the folks at The Thrilling Detective Web Site:
"Kinsey's charm lies in the fact that she's a woman of "rare spunk and independence," and that not only does she think she's tougher and smarter than she is, but that she consistently surprises us by being smarter and tougher than we think she is. At first glance, she's an accident waiting to happen. She drives a decrepit Volkswagen, she cuts her own hair with toenail scissors, she lives in a garage with a closet full of neuroses and one dress, a remarkable piece of synthetic miracle fabric which seems more capable of handling the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune than Kinsey is. Oh, and she's seemingly permanently stuck in the eighties."
I can't wait to read about Kinsey's latest adventure.  As I was reading the inside flap of "V" is for Vengeance, this quote from Kinsey herself caught my eye:
"I know there are people who believe you should forgive and forget. For the record, I'd like to say I'm a big fan of forgiveness as long as I'm given the opportunity to get even."
     Ha! Love it!  :)
Now if you'll excuse me...I've got some reading to do!  Oooooh, I can't wait!

  2. Thank you for commenting on my Simple Thing photo on my blog (Bright Side of the Road at http://lgrande99.blogspot.com/). I browsed through several of your photo-a-day challenge photos and loved them, especially the iPhone on a pedestal (I feel the same) and your post on George Washington's birthday -- interesting details and quotes. Nice to "visit" with you. :)
